Support of different non profit organisation in India for the needy

In a country like ours, which is so diverse in all fields, the people, even after trying their best, working all day, have not been successful in bringing the entire population of its citizens above the international poverty line. Most Indians, especially in the rural areas do not even earn the minimum wage per hour in the US, despite working the entire day. Savings, investments and expenditure on education etc. does not even come into the picture for such people who do not have basic amenities. They require employment in order to earn and strive through their lives. Reliance Foundation, A Non Profit Organisation in India, with their initiatives, has emerged as the saviour for such individuals.
One of the top most companies of the world, RIL has been actively participating in CSR activities, in order to cure problems in India, such as that of illiteracy, unemployment and health issues. One of the other major fields in which they’ve contributed, is education. Every year, Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation awards SSC merit rewards and undergraduate scholarships to the first three meritorious students and one physically challenged student securing highest marks from each of the districts of Gujarat and Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli at the annual SSC and HSC examinations of the state boards and 10 meritorious students from the state in the merit order list prepared by the CBSE, New Delhi, for secondary and senior secondary board examinations each, popularly known as the Dhirubhai Ambani scholarship, which is affiliated to one of the most prospering non profit organisations in India.
Many a time, education is not given to those who truly deserve. Someone, who is distracted and unwilling to study get luxurious treatment in the most renowned colleges in the country, whereas someone who wants to study and build a life, does not have enough fund to enrol for primary education. To sort out this gap, being a service-provider to the needy is the reason why such scholarships are a boon to the under-privileged. Scholarships indirectly help the universities as well, since they can later boast of rich alumni, when these students turn out to be successful investments of theirs.
The question thus arises, what is the role and responsibility of such organisations? Even though they are not compelled to operate, their roles and responsibilities are self decided and self administered. Such organisations only strive to give back to society and are typically not for anything, but social responsibility. A non profit organisation in India is thus, like an angel for the underdeveloped parts of the nation as well as those who are needy.

Companies should be judged by their end-users based on a score of their corporate social responsibility, which is the only way they will be encouraged to do better. Some companies do it by will, whereas some companies do it as a prestige. Dhirubai Ambani scholarship for students

The beginning of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology saw plenty of students taking up courses both at the undergraduate as well as the post graduate level. Selection criteria for these courses lies in how well the candidate performs in the competitive exams and what rank he secures on an all India level. On successfully clearing these entrance exams, candidates secure ranks and based on the merit grades of these candidates, the admission process is granted.

So, it basically depends on how well the student performs in these tests which ultimately decides as to whether he gets a confirmed seat or is in the waiting list quota while desiring admission in the prestigious Dhirubhai Ambani University

There is also a provision for direct admissions for foreign and nonresident Indian students. However, these seats are limited.

This renowned educational institute has been recognized under the UGC governing body. The two courses offered are information and communication technology, having a total number of 240 seats and the other course offered is the Honors level for the same with a secondary subject of computational science. The intake of which is 60 numbers. The category of students admitted depends upon half of the seats being occupied by candidates who pass out from schools belonging to Gujarat while the other half is reserved for the rest of the country category. This category also includes candidates from minority classes apart from the thirty seats offered to foreign nationals and NRIs. The rules set out for the eligibility and admission process is solely governed and monitored by the administrative body of the Dhirubhai Ambani Univeristy.

Grant of financial support to students who wish to continue their education, but may not be secured enough from the economic point of view, can be a very generous and supportive action. Several educational trusts and foundations work towards identifying meritorious students who have a deep desire to attain knowledge but lag behind from the financial aspect. Such candidates are identified and their future is made secure through scholarship for students. These seem to be equivalent to financial grants that are given so that even the unprivileged can make the most out of our education system.


Several prestigious groups have come up with funding gifts so that they can sponsor students to be extensively involved with education. Almost all major universities have tied up with such foundations and allow the intake of sponsored students. One of the most talked about and a famous financial grant that has been seen was taken up by the Reliance group. This came into effect from the year 1996 and since then this Dhirubai Ambani scholarship for students has changed the life of several aspiring candidates from the weaker sections of the society.

Non profit organizations in India have gone a long way in fulfilling the requirement

Working towards the benefit of the society is one of the noblest deeds. Associating oneself with this can be a really satisfactory action. Several organizations or groups are set up who work towards serving the community. Such groups have a set of members but the funds obtained from the various operations that they undertake are not distributed to these owners. Considering the need for individuals or groups to come out and help the needy, these non profit organizations in India have gone a long way in fulfilling the requirement of the not so well to do class of families. These groups are exempted from taxes. Their main aim is to perform tasks which are directly correlated to the interest of the general public.

The prime goal of these groups is to be able to function in a charitable manner covering various aspects such as imparting knowledge through various education mediums. It also focuses on other areas as well such as religious and scientific. These non profit organizations in India comprise of paid staff and other members who perform with utmost dedication to fulfill the mission and keep up to the visionary guidelines that are laid out by the organization.

With the rise in the way corporate houses have expanded, they have come forward and joined hands to work such that it serves to be beneficial to the society as well. These business houses see social causes and it’s betterment as their prime responsibility. There are different aspects of social causes that need to be taken care of. India has more than two million non profit organizations

Roughly, India has more than two million non profit organizations–one for every 600 people. Nonprofits have significantly risen over the past decade. This trend has been triggered by a combination of increasing wealth, a growing entrepreneurial spirit, and rising social inequality. As wealth increases, the need for charity increases

Rise of NGO’s in India: The most significant factor contributing to the rise of NGOs is the entrepreneurship boom. People in the non-profit sector are no longer happy to be cogs in a wheel in big companies and are keen to start their own organizations. Entrepreneurs are increasing in the corporate world, and the same is happening in the social sector, where people find more meaning. The growth of NGOs is a boon in disguise for the social sector as more and more non-profit organizations come forward and do good work for the society.


Suggested activities under CSR: The government's suggested CSR activities in India include measures to eradicate hunger, promote education, environmental sustainability, protection of national heritage and rural sports, and contributions to prime minister's relief fund. Corporates implement these CSR activities on their own, through their non-profit foundation or through independently registered non-profit organizations that have a record of at least three years in similar activities.
Tata Motors has adopted affirmative action policy of Tata Group, which focuses on inclusive growth. The community development programs ensure inclusive growth by involving marginalized sections of society, the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The sustainability initiatives of Tata Motors are classified into health, drinking water, education, skill development and environment.


Companies taking part in CSR activities: There are many foundations in India that help encourage CSR activities. Indian Oil has a concerted social responsibility programme to partner communities in health, family welfare, education, environment protection, providing potable water, sanitation, and empowerment of women and other marginalized groups. PepsiCo India continues to strengthen its Solid Waste Management initiatives in partnership with Exnora, an environmental NGO. This award winning, income-generating partnership provides a clean environment to more than 450000 people across Pammal, Chennai, Nagapattinam, Tenkasi and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, Sangareddy in Andhra Pradesh and Panipat, Haryana.

CSR in India - Importance

India has always been a humanitarian and socially driven country. Many NGO’s and governmental organizations have joined hands in social development. Community development, cultural impact, society and environmental norms have been at the forefront of all development projects. In many countries worldwide, CSR is a huge phenomenon and it is catching up in India as well. CSR is wherein companies undertake initiatives to contribute towards a community up gradation.
